OAKES (NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High basketball teams took care of business Friday night, as both the girls and boys defeated Barnes County North to earn District 5 wins.

The Tornado girls had a bit of a slow start, but recovered nicely in the first quarter. Up 39-14 at half, Oakes (3-7, 2-1 District 5) outscored the Bison 13-3 in the third to pull away for good.

Nicole Schmitz lead Oakes with 21 points, while Sadie Hansen put in another 12. Clara Wieland lead BCN (3-7, 1-1) with 10 points.

Boys: Oakes 95 Barnes County North 57

The Oakes boys set a record for most points scored in the history of the South Gym, and would have easily broke the century mark, had free throw percentage made been a little higher. Tyler Voightman’s 32 points lead the way for Oakes (3-4, 1-1), who had 59 points at intermission. Garrett Meehl added another 24 in the victory.

BCN (2-3, 0-1) saw Colby Bruner register 21 points, with Allen Contreras adding 15
