JAMESTWON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – South Border and Ellendale pick up wins in the consolation bracket on the final day of the Stutsman County Boys Basketball Tournament at the Jamestown Civic Center.  Carrington and Kidder County win in the night cap.

7th Place South Border 42 Medina-Pingree-Buchanan 40

Chase Bader hit a bucket inside with 25 seconds remaining to tie the game at 40. He then hit two free throws with 5.8 seconds left to give the Mustangs the lead 42-40. Then he stole in the inbound and dribbled it out leading the Mustangs to their second win of the year.

Bader led the Mustangs with a double double. He had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Collin Martz was also in double figures with 10. Alex Ruff added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Michael Thomas led the Thunder with 12 points, all coming in the first half. He would add three steals and two assists, both team highs.

Consolation Championship Ellendale 64, Midkota 32

The Cardinals jumped out to a 21-4 lead after one quarter and never looked back in improving to 5-2 on the season.

Austin Molan had 22 points, five rebounds and three steals to lead the Cardinals. Lucas Hofer had 19 points and Hunter Thorpe added 13 points.

Mason Smith and Chase Wells led the Mustangs with nine points each.

Kidder County 43 Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 42 (3rd place game)

The Imperials were down by as many as eight points late in the fourth quarter, but made a miraculous comeback and actually took the lead 42-40 with about 10 seconds left in the game.  The Wolves would get the ball back and drive half of the court and call timeout.  With 5.5 left, Kidder County would inbound the ball and eventually Junior Gage Pfaff would get it and put up a three pointer at the buzzer and nail it, it was Pfaff’s second buzzer beater of the tourney.  On Thursday, he hit a last second shot to beat Ellendale.  Jamison Fettig of NGS led all scorers with 21 points.  For KC, Austin Schmidt had 20 and Pfaff added 16.  KC improves to 5-4 overall, NGS drops to 3-6.

Carrington 72 Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 58 (championship)

Sophomore Seth Nelson had a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, including five 3-pointers to help the Cardinals win their second consecutive Stutsman Championship on Saturday night.  The Cardinals had four players in double figures, Kolton Vetter had 14, Trey Rosenau 12 and Garrett Bickett 10.  The Rebels lone Senior Lane Hanson had a game high 26 points and 14 rebounds and Junior Isaac Huber added 16.  Carrington improves to 6-2, EKM drops to 5-2.
