Jean Holcomb, the daughter of Evelyn (Faust) and Delbert Sundstrom, was born January 28, 1944 in Valley City, ND. She graduated from Valley City High School in 1962. Linda obtained her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Valley City State University and a Masters Degree from the University of North Dakota.

On April 4, 1964 she was united in marriage to Lynn Holcomb at Nebo Lutheran Church in Valley City. She had a special place in her heart for all teachers, especially Kindergarten teachers, her students and love of children’s literature. She began her teaching career as a kindergarten teacher in the Valley City Public Schools before she began her long career in teaching in the Elementary Education Division at Valley City State University. She retired in 2005 from VCSU but continued supervising student teaching for many years.

Linda and Lynn raised their two children on their family farm north of Valley City and wintered in Ft. Meyers, FL. She liked to read, cook, sew, do crafts and attend her grandchildren’s athletic activities.Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

She was a member of Nebo Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Chapter AZ PEO, Retired Teachers Association and on the Sheyenne Care Center Board.

Linda is survived by her husband, Lynn, Valley City, ND; daughter, Layne Smith (Kyle), Carrington, ND; her son, Laren (Amanda), Prior Lake, MN; and six grandchildren, Brady, Payton and Brynn Smith, and Nolan, Landon and Luke Holcomb. Also surviving is a brother, Jim (Rita) Sundstrom, Venice, FL; a sister, Jan Stowman, Valley City, ND; a sister-in-law, Kay (Paul) Gran, Aitkin, MN; and many special nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Delbert and Evelyn Sundstrom, her father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Iva Holcomb, and her brother-in-law, Chuck Stowman.

The funeral service for Linda will be 2 pm Friday, January 12, 2018 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City. Visitation will be 4-6 pm Thursday at the church with a prayer service at 6 pm. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, rural Valley City in the spring. She passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Mercy Hospital, Valley City.
