CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Grand Forks Central’s Branson Delorme made 2 free throws in the closing seconds to help The Knights hang on to beat Valley City 55-54 Friday night at The HAC.

The Hi-Liners were down 29-24 at the half and trailed by as much as 8 in the second half before coming back. The final 18 minutes saw 7 ties and 8 lead changes.

Tied for the final time at 51 The Knight were sent to the line 4 times and made all 4 free throws with the last 2 coming from Delorme with 5 seconds remaining in the game. Riley Miller hit a 3 on Valley City’s final possession of the game.

The stats were nearly identical for GFC and Valley City. Both teams were 31% from the field. The Hi-Liners had 7 3 pointers compared to 6 for The Knights. The rebounding battle went to Valley City 31-29.

Matthew Lyter led all scorers with 17 points, he added 6 rebounds. Miller had 3 three point baskets to end his night with 15 points while dishing out 6 assist. Luther Zeltinger scored 9 points and Avery Bennefeld 7.

Grand Forks Central saw 3 score in double figures. Jacob Ohnstad put up 16 points, Delorme 11 and Debyn Johnson 10.

The Knights earned their first win of the year and are now 1-8. Valley City falls to 1-9, Tuesday they play a 2 point game at Fargo South.
