VALLEY CITY (NewsDakota.com) The Barnes County North, Milnor/North Sargent, Maple Valley and LaMoure-Litchville/Marion boys basketball teams were all victorious in second round games at the Barnes County Basketball Tournament Friday.

This game was a back and forth tussle for the first three quarters, with Sargent Central hitting a three at towards the end of the first to have a one point lead. The Cadets (0-8) would lead by two at half, and hold onto a one point lead going to the final eight minutes.

In the fourth however, the Bison would outscore their opponents 14-7 to pull out the victory. BCN had three players in double figures, lead by Allen Contreas’ 17. Colby Bruner added 12, and Tristin Roaldson put in 10 to go along with nine rebounds for the victorious Bison (3-4)

The victorious Bulldogs looked early on that they would cruise, as they started with a 13-0 run, and lead by 13 after the first eight minutes. The Spartans would rally back, with 17 of their own points in the second quarter, and another 15 in the third to be up by a point going to the fourth.

But MNS (3-4) would outscore FSHP (0-9 )22-5 to pull away, thanks to Josh Martinson’s 17 points in the game. The Spartans had a team high 16 points from Max Stromsodt.

Maple Valley 52 Enderlin 50

The Eagles soared out of the game looking for the upset against the ninth best team in the state; up 12-3 after one quarter. Enderlin (4-6) would have a lead as large as 14,  but the Raiders (8-0) would put up 22 in the second and make it a two possession game at intermission.

Enderlin would be up five going to the final quarter, but it was Maple Valley winning the contest after a 19-12 quarter performance. Carter Killoran’s 14 points lead the way for the Raiders, who didn’t make a three point basket in the game. Chance Bye had 24 in the loss for the Eagles, including four of eight from beyond the arc.

LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 48 Griggs County Central 47

In the fourth game Friday, the Cougars, who had just won their first game of the season, almost pulled off the upset; despite being outscored 21-10 in the final quarter.

Jamison Kramer had a double-double for the victorious Loboes (7-1) with 16 points and 10 rebounds. GCC (1-8) had 15 points from Tanner Haugen.

Saturday’s play starts with the seventh place match between Sargent Central and FSHP at noon, followed by the fifth place contest featuring BCN and MNS at 1:30. At 3, the third place game will have Enderlin go against GCC, and Maple Valley and LLM will suit up for the championship around 4:30.
