S.D.(VCSUVikings.com) – The Valley City State women’s basketball team ended its seven-game road swing with another victory Saturday afternoon, downing Presentation College 79-65 in Aberdeen.

The No. 19-ranked Vikings ended their longest road stretch of the season with a 5-2 record, including four straight victories. VCSU is now 16-3 overall and 8-2 in the North Star Athletic Association. Presentation College drops to 8-11 overall and 5-5 in the NSAA.

After going down 10-6 midway through the first quarter Saturday, the Vikings took control of the game with a 15-0 run that put them up 21-10 at the first break.

VCSU led 42-33 at halftime before the Saints made a third-quarter run. Presentation College scored the first 10 points of the second half to take a 43-42 lead. VCSU responded with a 17-2 run to regain control with a 59-45 advantage. The Saints would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Four Vikings scored in double figures, led by 18 points and nine rebounds from Alli Vandal. Guard Kennedy Henningsgard posted a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Lexi Lennon finished with 11 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Kaitlin Connor scored 10 points off the bench. Kate Williams added nine points and Mackenzie Huber scored eight for the Vikings.

VCSU shot 45 percent from the field (26-58), 38 percent on 3’s (8-21) and 83 percent at the line (19-23). The Vikings committed just 11 turnovers and held a 38-24 advantage on the glass.

Presentation College shot 35 percent from the field (19-54), 30 percent on 3’s (8-27) and 83 percent at the line (19-23). Macy Toelle led the Saints with 18 points and Allison Cox added 13.

Up next: Valley City State hosts Dakota State and Bellevue University for games Jan. 26 and 27 in Valley City. They are the first home games for VCSU since Dec. 16.
