N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- No.10 Maple Valley went 8 for 9 from the free throw line in the 4th quarter and held on to win a back and fourth battle with LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 61-59.

The game saw 9 ties with the last one coming in the 3rd quarter. The Raiders led 19-18 after the first 8 minutes, The Loboes were on top at halftime 27-25. LLM had a strong post presence in the first half, Maple Valley coach Jay Kocka said the message at the intermission was step up play around the basket

 

Third quarter scoring went to The Raiders 22-15 and they began the 4th up 47-42. The Loboes fell behind by 8 point 55-37 with 3:07 left in the game. LLM would go on a late run and with 18.1 to go Rory Gentzkow drained a 3 to pull within 55-57.

Free throws by Brandon Pierce, Jacob Johnson and Dustin Kasowksi kept Maple Valley in front. Alex Klever gave The Loboes one last chance with a 3 pointer coming with .8 left on the scoreboard but a quick inbound pass ended the game.

LLM finished the game with 8 3’s, 4 belonged to Klever who had a team high 18 points. Shay Ness scored 16 and Jamison Kramer 12.

Maple Valley also had 3 in double figures. Hunter Smith nailed 5 from beyond the arc and was the game’s top scorer with 21 points. AJ Punton had 18 and Kasowski 11.

The Raiders have now taken both of their meetings with The Loboes this season, last time was by 16 in The Barnes County Tournament Championship. Kocka says Monday’s meeting was the type of game they were preparing for

 

LaMoure-Litchville/Marion falls to 8-4 on the season, they return to District 5 play Friday night in Carrington. Maple Valley remains perfect on the season at 11-0, Thursday they play Sargent Central at home.
