EDGELEY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A LaMoure woman was injured after drifting off the highway and striking a semi Friday afternoon.

Michele Eckmann, 41, of LaMoure was traveling northbound on Highway 281 at around 3:37 PM Friday. Eckmann drifted into the southbound lane when she sneezed, putting her in the path of a semi truck driven by Timothy Salberg of Aberdeen, SD.

Salberg attempted to avoid collision by steering the truck and trailer away from the SUV by steering his semi and trailer away. The SUV struck the tanker trailer loaded with gasoline before coming to rest in the center of the roadway. Salberg maintained control of the truck and trailer as it entered the ditch.

Eckman was transported by ambulance to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center. No gas was spilled from the trailer. The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
