JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The number three and seven ranked teams in Class B Girls basketball have assured themselves a spot in the Region III Tournament later this month, and will play for the District 5 Championship Monday night after winning their semifinal games. Four other teams will compete for two spots to join the Loboes and Cardinals.

Loser-Out: Barnes County North 65 Midkota 58

For the second time this season, the Bison were victorious over the Mustangs; this time sending Midkota home for the season.

In a game that saw 48 total fouls, BCN hit almost 5o percent of their three point attempts to pull out the win, and keep their season going. Ashley Samek had a game high 22 points in the win. Midkota’s Joslyn Hoyt earned 16 points in the defeat.

Semifinal #1: #3 LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 55 Oakes 46

The third ranked Loboes had a much more difficult outing the second time around against the Tornadoes than in late January. Up by 20 going to the fourth, Oakes managed to go on a 12-3 run to start the fourth quarter to make a game of it down the stretch.

But, turnovers were a major catalyst in the outcome. Oakes registered 21, while LLM had only nine. The Loboes Jackie Meiklejohn and the Tornadoes Nicole Schmitz each had 15 points to lead their squads.

Semifinal #2: #7 Carrington 61 #4 Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier 44

Four players netted double figures for the victorious Cardinals. Kadyn Mehring and Jill Endres each had 12 points, while Beela Hone added 11 and Emerson Hoornaert registered 10. A 22-11 run in the third quarter put the game out of reach.

The Rebels had a team high 19 point and 10 rebounds from Katie Entzi.

The final day of the tournament is Monday, February 12 with the first two games featuring Region III qualfying contests; EKM meets Ellendale at 4:30, followed by Oakes and BCN at 6. The District 5 Championship between LLM and Carrington is set for 7:30.
