Jamestown, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)——The Carrington Cardinals survived a late comeback attempt from Edgely-Kulm-Montpeiler (EKM) and won 62-61. Medina-Pingree-Buchanan (MPB) also held on late to defeat Lamoure-Litchville-Marion 58-48.

The 4th ranked Cardinals built a 14 point lead late in the third quarter and held off a late Rebel rally for a return trip to the Region 3 championship. This will be the Cards 4th straight championship game. This contest was also a rematch of the past 2 Region 3 championship games which were split with Carrington winning in 2016 and the Rebels winning in 2017. The Cards were paced by Kadyn Mehring with a team high 13 points and Addison Hoornaert added 11 points. Emerson Hoornaert and Jill Endres also added 10 points. Haley Hewitt added 8 points, connecting on all 6 of her free throw attempts late in the game to secure the victory. Endres also connected on 2 late free throws. Endres, and the Hoornaert sisters all had a game high 7 rebounds. Hewitt and Emerson Hoornaert both added 3 steals for the Cards.

EKM was paced by Katie Entzi with 18 points,  7 rebounds, and 5 steals.  Kaitlyn Schiele added 16 points and 7 rebounds. The 7th rated Rebels dropped to 20-4 overall and will play for third place on Thursday night against LLM. Carrington improved to 20-4 overall and advances to the Region 3 title game on Thursday night.

The 2nd ranked Thunder jumped out to an early lead and rallied late to hold off a late Loboe rally and advance to the Region 3 championship with a 58-48 victory. The 6th ranked Loboes scored just 2 first quarter points and were playing catchup all night against the Thunder. Trailing 35-17 in the middle of the third quarter, LLM made a run that brought them within 3 points in the final quarter at 39-36. The Thunder would finish the game on a 19-12 run for the victory. Jadyn Pollert paced the Thunder with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Megan Moser (12), Halle Uehran (11), and Lauren Moser (10) all added double figures for the Thunder. LLM was paced by Anna Holen with a game high 28 points and had a team high 8 rebounds. Ellie Holen added 10 points for the Loboes. LLM dropped to 20-3 overall and MPB improved to 21-2.
