GRAND FORKS, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Down by 13 in the second half, The Hi-Liners boys pulled within 3 but could get no close falling to Grand Forks Central 62-58 in their final game of the regular season.

The game started well for Valley City,they jumped out to a quick 8 point lead. Central responded back with a 10-0 run. After a brief tie The Knights would head into the intermission up 31-25.

In the second half Central began to look like they were going to begin to pull away running the score to 48-35. Matthew Lyter pulled Valley City right back in it with 3 consecutive 3 pointers. The Hi-Liners kept at the heels on The Knights for the final 8:30 minutes but just couldn’t close the gap.

Riley Miller gave them one last shot at a comeback with a 3 point basket with 9.9 second left in the game. Jacob Onstad sealed the win for Central with a free throw on the next possession.

Lyter had a strong offensive night pouring in 28 points including 4 3 pointers. He added 7 rebounds. Avery Bennefeld just missed a double double with 9 points and 8 boards. Miller scored 8 points.

The Knights’ Debyn Johnson scored 18 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Chris Demuth and Jacob Onstad each produced 13 points.

Both teams will have to wait until Thursday to find out where they will play their EDC play in games Saturday. Central, who ends the year 4-16 in the region, is the 10th seed and plays at the 7 seed. The Hi-Liners are the 11 seed with their 2-18 mark, they play at the 6th seed.
