JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The National Council for Home Safety and Security has announced the safest cities in North Dakota for 2018.

According to the report, the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics were analyzed along with population data and internal research. Cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI and with populations under 10,000 were not considered in the results.

“The remaining cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 1,000 people,” the organization states. “These variables were then weighted, with violent crimes accounting for 1.5 of the total (due to their severity) than property crimes.”

The final report was released today with West Fargo being named the safest city in North Dakota. Following was Dickinson, Williston, Minot, Grand Forks and Jamestown.
