FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Day 1 of The Region 1 girls’ basketball tournament stuck to the formula Monday night at The SHAC. The higher seeds were victorious in 3 of the 4 games while the battle of the 4 and 5 seed came down to the wire.

Top seeded Kindred, Oak Grove, Lisbon and Central Cass all advanced to Tuesday night’s semifinals. The Vikings and Grovers play at 6 with The Broncos and Squirrels to follow 20 minutes later.

No.1 Kindred 59 vs. No.8 Hankinson 22

The defending state champions raced out to an early lead against The Pirates and never looked back. The Vikings led 34-15 at halftime.

Kristina Freier scored a game high 13 points for Kindred; Abby Duchscherer added 12.

Kya Mauch led Hankinson with 10.

 

No.5 Oak Grove 54  vs. No.4 Enderlin 48

Kaylie Schlecht was able to give The Eagles their first and only lead of the game with 6:30 left making 3 free throws to give Enderlin the advantage 38-37. The Grovers responded with 3 straight field goals by Lauren Forness that gave them the lead for good.

Kelyn Johnson scored 13 of her game high 18 point in the first half for Oak Grove. Amanda Roller was also in double figures with 13.

Hope Lingren fueled Enderlin’s comeback with 12 points in the second half on her way to a 16 point game. Katelyn Tingley added 15 and  Kaylie Schlecht 6.

 

No.2 Lisbon 76 vs. No.7 Richland 28

Megan Roob drained an early 3 for The Colts giving them a 3-2 led early in that game but then it was all Lisbon after that. The Broncos were up 45-13 at the half behind 7- 3 pointers. They’d end the game with 10 from long range.

Jamie Reinke dialed up 6 3s for Lisbon, she scored 18 points. Elizabeth Lyons poured in 19, Kaitlin Geyer had 16 and Karly Schultz 11.

Roob scored 14 to lead Richland.

 

No.3 Central Cass 55 vs. Milnor/North Sargent 45

In a game that featured 10 ties and several lead changes, The Squirrels pulled away in the game’s final 3 minutes to advance to the region semifinals. The Bulldogs were up 13-7 at the end of the first quarter. Central Cass held the advantage at the half 21-20 and then went into the final quarter down 36-34.

Jaylin Cotton scored 12 off the bench to pace Central Cass. Maddy Sweep and Kailey McKinnon but scored 9.

Dylan Frederick scored 16 for Milnor/North Sargent. Victoria Sadness had 10.
