Elmo Schwartz, 90, Valley City, ND passed away at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City on February 21, 2018. The funeral service for Elmo will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Litchville, ND on Saturday, February 24 at 10:30 AM. Burial will be later in the spring at Memory Gardens, near Valley City. Visitation will be on Friday from 12 noon until 5 PM in the Lerud-Schuldt-Mathias Funeral Home Chapel, Valley City.

Elmo Leroy Schwartz was born November 20, 1927, to Henry and Elise (Wegner) Schwartz in rural Litchville, ND. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity (Griswold) Lutheran Church. He completed eighth grade in rural Litchville Prairie School #4. He farmed with his father until Henry retired after which he took over the family farm.

He married Lavonne Hetland Mosby on July 11, 1971 and was blessed with two step children, Bob and Judy.

Elmo was a kind, soft hearted soul who didn’t complain and believed the best in everyone he met. He enjoyed playing whist, dancing the two step, and listening to old time music. For the last 25 years, he resided at the Rudolph Square in Valley City.

Elmo is survived by Bob (Kathy) Mosby of Valley City, Judy (Steve) Paulson of Fargo, 4 step grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren, sister Velva Keene, Arizona, 6 nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lavonne, parents, brother Harold, and brother-in-law Tom Keene.
