JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A man is dead following a pursuit and shootout with Jamestown Police and Stutsman County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Just before noon, the Jamestown Police Department engaged in a high speed chase North of Jamestown on Highway 281. The pursuit began after the man had been pulled over and found to be driving under suspension.

Stutsman County Sheriff’s Deputies later joined in the pursuit. During the chase, the suspect shot at officials. The suspect lead officers to the Woodworth area when his vehicle became stuck.

Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser reports that officers fired back, injuring the man. He says no officers were injured in the shootout.

The man received a gunshot wound to the chest. Sheriff Kaiser says officers applied first aid until ambulance crews arrived. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been called in to assist with the investigation.

The name of the man is being withheld.
