MINOT, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Despite a valiant effort to start the second half, and the waining minutes of regulation, the Medina/Pingree-Buchanan girls basketball team will be playing for third place Saturday evening, after falling short to Grant County 49-47 in the semifinals of the State Class B Girls Tournament.

In a game that featured 11 lead changes and six ties, it was the Coyotes (21-5) who ended MPB’s 17 game winning streak; thanks in large part to second chance points, of which Grant County shut out the Thunder eight to nothing.

Both teams shot a high amount of three-pointers, with the Thunder (23-3) registering seven alone from Amanda Allen, finishing with a game high 21 points. Taylor Roehl lead the Coyotes with 13 points, including a half-court shot to end the first quarter.

MPB will play Thompson for third place Saturday at 6 p.m. Coverage on Q 101.1 FM and NewsDakota.com will start around 5:45 p.m.
