BISMARCK (NewsDakota.com) – For the first time in school history, the Jamestown boys basketball team will play for the West Region championship. They followed up Thursday night’s stunner against Mandan with a 76-62 victory over St. Mary’s in the semifinals. The win sealed their second trip to state since 2001.

Boden Skunberg picked up right where he left off, following his game-winner, with an impressive and efficient night. He poured in a game-high 32 on just 17 shots, 13-17.

After, 19 in the first half, he didn’t take his first shot in the second half until the midpoint. But he created the separation his team needed to seal it.

Mason Walters was huge as well with 21 on 10-14 from the field.

Luke Kambeitz and Cole Genedreau tried to get in a shootout with Walters and Skunberg, but they couldn’t hang in the end.

The win pushes Jamestown to the West Region Championship against Jacoby Lloyd’s former boss Darin Mattern and the Century Patriots. The Pats won the first two meetings and reached another final with a dramatic last second win over Minot, 68-65.

The game is scheduled to tip around 7:45pm from the Bismarck Event Center.
