JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Drag Racing Association (JDRA) has taken a step forward to build a drag strip near Jamestown.

During a special meeting Tuesday night, an open meeting was held to discuss land in the Midway Township that was found to be perfect for what the association had in mind.

“We have worked out a deal with the current landowners to purchase an approximate 26 acre parcel, contingent on the zoning changing from agricultural to commercial,” the JDRA says in a release. “We look forward to the future which will include much more work but we are confident we have the crew willing to put in the effort.”

The township ultimately decided to change the zoning in favor of the future drag strip, with construction anticipated to begin in around 3 to 5 years depending on fundraising efforts and other circumstances.

The strip would be located at west of the junction of the Highway 281 ByPass and County Road 40. Once built, it would be the state’s first 1/4 mile drag strip.

The JDRA will be holding their annual drag race at the Jamestown Regional Airport May 19th & 20th. The JDRA Track Committee is comprised of Tyler Michel, Michael Trautman, and Brian Kamlitz.
