BISMARCK, N.D. (NDAPSSA)- District 5, Region 3 and Class B senior athlete of the year, plus multiple all-state accolades in both girls basketball and volleyball; 2018 Miss Basketball; 2,000-plus career points; three-time state champion in volleyball.

That’s quite the list of accomplishments for one Anna Holen of LaMoure-Litchville-Marion.

Well, add to that another all-state honor.

Holen capped off an outstanding high school career by being named to the 2018 Class B girls basketball all-state first team. The 5-foot-8 senior guard also was a first-team selection in 2016 and 2017.

Grace Benz of Kidder County, Stephanie Miller of North Star, Jordyn Worley of Langdon Area-Edmore-Munich, Abby Duchscherer of Kindred and Elizabeth Lyons of Lisbon round out the six-player first team. The second team is comprised of Taylor Roehl and Alexis Bentz of Class B state champion Grant County; Amber Stevahn of Shiloh Christian; Sydney Andersen of Killdeer; Kaity Hove of Trenton; Katie Entzi of Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier: Tyleigh Brady of New Town; Abby Iverson of Stanley; Madison Uhlenkamp of Rugby, and Taylor Reilly of Drayton-Valley-Edinburg.

Holen averaged 20.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game her senior season, leading the Loboes to a 20-4 record. She shot 46.3 percent from the floor and 81 percent from the free-throw line.

Holen, who scored 2,001 career points, played in the 2015 state tournament, helping the Loboes to a third-place finish. She was named to the all-state tournament team.

“Anna was a prolific scorer, but she also led the team in rebounding and assists,” said LLM coach Mitch Carlson. “She was a leader on and off the court, and a fierce competitor who did whatever it took to make her team successful.”

Benz, a 5-10 senior forward, put together a solid all-around season for Kidder County, which finished second in the District 6 tournament behind eventual Region 3 champion Medina-Pingree-Buchanan. She averaged 19.5 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 4.5 steals.

“Grace demonstrated consistency on both ends of the floor this season,” said Kidder County coach Dan Welder. “She also took on more of a leadership role with a fairly young team. She put in the time in the offseason to improve her numbers.”

Miller, a 5-7 senior guard and a Miss Basketball finalist, scored 1,724 points and collected 662 rebounds in her high school career. She averaged 21.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.2 steals per game her senior season.

Miller helped lead North Star to the 2016 and 2017 state tournaments, where the Bearcats finished third and second, respectively.

“Stephanie has been a huge part of the success of the North Star girls basketball team the last few years,” said North Star coach Jill Vote. “She’s a gym rat who has put in countless hours to get to where she is. We looked to her to handle the ball and score consistently, as well as defend some of the other team’s best offensive players.”

Worley, a 5-7 senior guard, averaged 19 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 3.7 steals while leading the Cardinals to the state tournament, where they finished fifth. Her career numbers include 1,803 points and 625 rebounds.

“Jordyn is a very special offensive player. She has the ability to post up, shoot the three, and attack the basket with either hand while finishing,” said LAEM coach Rob Scherr. “What really stands out is her improvement on the defensive end, and her ability to help out in rebounding.”

Duchscherer, a 5-10 eighth-grade guard, was the go-to player for a Kindred team that placed sixth in the state tournament. She averaged 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2.3 steals.

“Abby loves to compete and rise to the challenge,” said Kindred coach Sam Brandt. “She’s all about team, and the success she helps create for everyone.”

Lyons, a 6-foot senior center, averaged 18.4 points, 11.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 1.5 blocks. The multi-talented athlete had more than 1,000 career points in basketball and 1,000 career kills in volleyball.

“Elizabeth is one of those tremendous athletes who doesn’t come along very often,” said Lisbon coach Barb Sweet. “After Christmas of her freshman year she became a starter and she seldom left the court after that. She worked hard during each basketball season to learn the game, and her size and athletic ability allowed her to be dominant.”
