JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Jamestown Police Officer and two Stutsman County Deputies have returned to duty following the investigation into a Stutsman County shooting in February.

Stutsman County State’s Attorney Fritz Fremgen has released the investigation findings from the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

“This is a tragic situation,” Fremgen’s release states. “Law enforcement used restraint and self-control balancing the execution of their duty with preserving everyone’s safety.”

Investigation found that the officers were justified in using deadly force in the February 21st shooting North of Medina. Fremgen says no charge will be warranted for Jamestown Police Officer Logan Hord, and Stutsman County Sheriff’s Deputies Daniel White and Casey Yunck.

Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger says Officer Hord was assigned to the Stutsman County Narcotics Task Force during the incident.

“[Michael] Schieffer had committed a felony involving violence and the officers were justified in using deadly force to effectuate Schieffer’s arrest,” Fremgen reports.

Police used deadly force when Schieffer lead officers on a high speed chase in Stutsman County that ended north of Medina. Schieffer exited his vehicle and fired a weapon at officers, forcing them to engage with their weapons. He was killed in the exchange. No officers were injured.
