JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Safe Shelter has continued to work towards finishing Mary’s Place, a temporary housing unit for individuals affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Safe Shelter Executive Director Lynne Tally says they’ve been providing their service since 1981.

The Mary’s Place project was announced in 2016. Tally says they’ll be able to continue their mission of providing a safe place for affected individuals once construction is complete.

Thanks in part to a large donation by Mary Newman, fundraising efforts have continued for the shelter. Tally says they will hope to have the housing units constructed by June 30th.

As part of their fundraising efforts, Safe Shelter will be holding their first ever 5K Rabbit Run on March 31st. The run will begin at 9 AM at the Harold Newman Arena and will also include a 3K Bunny Hop through campus for families. There will be prizes, inflatables and food with all proceeds going towards Mary’s Place.
