FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The Oakes High track and field teams fared quite well at the Class B North Dakota State High School Indoor Track and Field Championships at Shelly Ellig Indoor Track and Field Facility on the campus of North Dakota State University on Saturday.

The Oakes girls placed fifth with a team score of 57 points. Laine Awender was victorious in the 60 meter dash (8.17 seconds) and the 200 meter dash (28.17 seconds). Marisa Garza  placed fourth in the 400 (1:08.45). The Tornado girls 4×200 was third (1:58.91), and the 4×400 and 4×800 each placed fourth (4:46.64 12:22.41).

In the field events, Claire Wagner was second in the pole vault (7 feet 6 inches). Bailey Skjefte took eighth in the long jump (13 feet 9.5 inches). Emily Folkman placed seventh (29 feet 6.5 inches) and Skjefte eighth (29 feet 5.5 inches) in the triple jump. Sadie Hansen was fifth in the shot put (32 feet0.

For the boys, they took seventh with a team total of 33 points. Layne Schmit was second in the mile run (4.57.48) and sixth in the 800 (2:22.93). Logan Sell (57.11) and Brackin Awender (57.37) were fifth and sixth in the 400. The Tornado 4×400 was fifth (3:59.72) and the 4×800 second (9:12.48).

Dalton Nelson placed seventh (41 feet 6 inches) and Ashton Biesterfeld was eighth (39 feet 8 inches) in the shot put.
