Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Toay, 83, of rural Edgeley ND, passed away on March 31, 2018 at Eventide Nursing Home in Jamestown, ND. Funeral services for Betty will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at 2:00 pm at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Edgeley, ND. Pastor Bob Forbes will officiate the ceremony. Visitation for Betty will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Williams-Lisko Funeral Home in Edgeley, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Betty was born January 14, 1935 on a farm near Alfred, ND.

She was the third of four daughters born to John and Bertha Fode. She attended Jud Public School in Jud, ND, graduating from high school in 1953. Betty met Don (Bub) Toay while in high school and they were married on October 4, 1953, at the Congregational church in Jud, ND. After their marriage they made their home on the family farm near Jud. Betty worked with Bub on the farm driving trucks, milking cows, gardening, taking meals to the fields, managing the household and many other tasks while also providing loving care for Bub and their family of 5 children. Despite the demands of the farm, they made time for family activities such as baseball games and camping and fishing trips. Family was always her first priority and she lovingly cared for many of her grandchildren as often as she could. Betty attended the Seventh-Day Adventist Church at Deisem and then in Edgeley when the congregation built the new church. She was an active church member serving as Sabbath School superintendent, church clerk, Community Services leader, children’s division leader, kitchen event and potluck coordinator, and was always willing to help with other duties as they arose. Betty enjoyed music, reading, knitting, puzzles, annual mother/daughter Christmas shopping trips, and anything involving helping her family members.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Evelyn Fode. Survivors include her husband, Don (Bub), Edgeley, ND, five children: Barry (Vicki) Toay, Edgeley, ND; Brenda (Gary) Johnson, Annandale, MN; Bryce (Dawn) Toay, Edgeley, ND; Bart (Glenda) Toay, Fargo, ND; Becky (Scott) Hansen, Bowman, ND; grandchildren: Dalton Toay, Kaitlynn Toay, Tanner Toay, Krysta Johnson, Matthew (Hannah) Johnson, Bobbi (Jeremiah) Majerus, Kelli Toay, Corey (Aly) Toay, Brock Toay, Gwendolyn Toay, Wyatt Hansen, Truxton Hansen; one great-grandchild, Aubrey Johnson; two sisters: Helen Duden and Ruby (Del) Laffen, and “just-like-family” Tim, Dulcie, Cameron and Arianna Hoff. Betty’s family believes she is now resting and they are looking forward to the Resurrection Day when, once again, they will all be reunited. While flowers are appreciated, monetary gifts will go to support disaster and relief purposes. Online guest book: williamslisko.com
