CARRINGTON, N.D.  (NewsDakota.com) With the cold spring temperatures and some late spring snow storms, the Carrington High School Baseball team is still trying to get practices in and prepare for the upcoming 2018 regular season.  On the original schedule, the Cardinals were to kick off their regular season this Friday and Saturday, April 6th and 7th in Bismarck at the Shiloh Invite, but the forecast for snow and cold has cancelled the tournament. The outlook for two regular season games next week in Medina and Steele are also looking bleak.

Head Coach, Wayne Shipman, currently entering his 15th season for the Cardinals, says that despite the cold and wet weather, practice must go on.

Right now the Carrington baseball, track and golf teams are all practicing, but all three have to be indoors right now.

Shipman says that the ballpark at Carrington City Park is not ready for baseball anytime soon.

Coach Shipman talks about his pitching staff.

The Cardinals have been to the state tournament five out of the last six years, finishing fourth last year at state and an 18-8 overall record.  The Cardinals compete with four other teams in Region III, including Dakota Prairie/Midkota/GCC, Sheyenne/New Rockford, Medina/Pingree/Buchanan and Kidder County.

Once the season commences for the Cardinals, AM 1600 KDAK the Cardinal and newsdakota.com will have play by play coverage.
