JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Hockey communities around the world are reeling after a tragic bus crash that claimed the lives of 15 junior ice hockey players from the small Canadian town of Humboldt.

The bus was carrying the junior team to a playoff game on Friday, April 6th when the bus collided with a truck in Saskatchewan. Fourteen others were injured in the crash and taken to hospitals throughout Canada.

“Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the families of our staff and athletes as well as to all who have been impacted by this horrible tragedy,” tean President Kevin Garinger said in a statement.

The University of Jamestown hockey team will be collecting donations to help those affected by the crash.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to send up a big donation to go towards medical expenses or any other expenses that have come from this,” head coach Cole Bell said. “The hockey world is a small world. It’s more than a game, it’s a lifestyle for a lot of us and brings us together.”
