FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- A day after earning two wins indoors, Valley City moved outside for their first Eastern Dakota Conference game of the year playing Shanley at Sid Cichy Stadium in Fargo.

Despite just 4 hits, The Hi-Liners managed a 5-3 win over The Deacons in a 2 point game. Valley City is now 3-0 overall on the year. Next up is a trip to Central Cass to play West Fargo Saturday.

Scoring came early for Valley City, Grace Scherr and Kacee White hit back to back singles to open the 1st inning. Mackenzie Pederson drive in Scherr with a sac bunt then a ground out by McKenna Taylor plated White.

In the 3rd inning White came around with a 2 out inside the park home and in the 4th Becca Thompson scored on a single from Lexi Ondracek to push Valley City’s led to 4-0.

Shanley got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th after a 2 run error allowed Ingrid Swanson and Gabby Nelson to reach home safely making it a 4-2 game.

Hailey Schaefer added some insurance for The Hi-Liner’s with an RBI ground out in the 6th. Shanley responded with a run in the home half of the inning and that’d be all for The Deacon’s offense, in the 7th they were set down in order.

Scherr got the win going 5 innings in her first start of the season. She allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and 3 strike outs. Schaefer worked the final 2 frames, giving up a run on 1 hit.

Shanley starter Ingrid Swanson took the loss in a complete game effort. She was tagged for 5 earned runs on 4 hits with 6 strike outs. She walked 3.
