JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Hi-Liner Speech Team traveled to the 66th Annual North Dakota State Class A Speech Tournament. Of the 19 teams in attendance, Valley City managed to capture 1st place with 129 sweepstakes points.

This was Valley City’s second consecutive state title and 6th state title in program history. St. Mary’s was second with 76 points, Dickinson was 3rd with 73 points, and West Fargo Sheyenne was 4th with 50 points.

Nathan Amberg, Dickinson High School, was named the 2018 CSTAND Coach of the Year. Eleven Hi-Liner Speech competitors were named to the 2018 CSTAND All-State Speech team: Abby Slyter, David Opdahl, Rose Marcellus, Jack Jordan, Elisabeth Borg, Maggie Oberlander, Eliza Johnson, Monisha Terry, Lillian Kiefert, Madi Klabo, and Olivia Slyter.

Serious Duo: Maggie Oberlander/Eliza Johnson (4th), Rose Marcellus/Abby Slyter (2nd), Morgan Jenner/David Opdahl (1st and State Champion)

Radio Broadcasting: John Lahlum (5th), Eliza Johnson (3rd)

Serious Prose: Brooke Ask (Superior Medalist), Maggie Oberlander (1st and State Champion)

Speech to Entertain: Dylan Quick (Superior Medalist), Elizabeth Gazeley (2nd)

Humorous Duo: Cassie Mundal/Brooke Ask (Superior Medalist), Andrew King/Talia Germann (1st and State Champion)
