JAMESTOWN, N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) –

Kaleb Binstock (JR/Grand Forks, ND) was 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs and drove in three runs while Chase Thometz(SR/Sandy, OR) allowed just one run over seven innings as the No. 3 seed University of Jamestown defeated No. 6 seed Viterbo (Wis.) 8-3  Friday in the North Star Athletic Association conference tournament.

Binstock hit a two-run shot in the top of the first to give the Jimmies a 2-0 lead.

Viterbo answered with a two-out single by Adam Klos, making the score 2-1 after one.

Jamestown scored in the top of the second on a Taichi Sasaki(SR/Sakai, Osaka, Japan) fielder’s choice to retake a two-run lead. Tanner Roundy (JR/Henderson, NV)’s fourth inning sacrifice fly made it 4-1, then Binstock’s second home run of the game pushed UJ’s lead to 5-1 in the fifth.

Scooter Turin (SR/Sandy, OR) and Tyler Ludlow (SR/Port Orchard, WA) had sacrifice flies in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively, extending Jamestown’s advantage to 7-1. An eighth-inning single by Kory Wolden (SR/West Fargo, ND) accounted for the Jimmies’ final run of the game.

The V-Hawks scored twice in the bottom of the ninth in part to two Jamestown errors.

Thometz (10-0) struck out six and walked two before giving way to Beau Rabedeaux (SR/Poulsbo, WA) in the seventh. Kyle Gilbertson (5-6) took the loss for Viterbo. He allowed seven runs on seven hits in seven innings, walking two and striking out one.

Roundy finished 2-for-3 for the Jimmies. Brad Giss was 2-for-4 including a double for the V-Hawks.

Jamestown (40-7) advances to face No. 2 seed Bellevue (Neb.) at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Viterbo (13-40) plays Valley City State (N.D.) in a loser-out game Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
