JAMESTOWN, N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – Down 2-1 in the ninth, the Jimmie baseball team rallied to tie the game on a Bellevue error, but the Bruins scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the 10th for a 3-2 win in the North Star Athletic Association postseason tournament at Jack Brown Stadium..

Bellevue (36-21) advances to Monday’s championship game, where they will face Presentation (S.D.) College at 2:00 p.m. Jamestown (41-9) will wait to see if they earn one of the at-large berths for the NAIA national tournament.

The Jimmies loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth, and scored the first run of the game as Quinn Irey (SR/Bismarck, ND) hit into a double play.

Austin Alexander hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead.

Jamestown used a pair of walks and a hit batter against reliever Max Dwyer to load the bases in the bottom of the ninth. A fielding error on a ball hit by Taichi Sasaki (SR/Sakai, Osaka, Japan) allowed the tying run to score.

The Bruins had a runner at second with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Hunter Kelly singled to right and Alexander was waved home, but Sasaki unleashed a perfect strike to Irey at the plate to get Alexander for the second out.

Dakota Nelson (JR/Dallas, OR) started for UJ and went five innings, giving up two runs on four hits. He struck out six and walked two. Eric Evans (SR/Weyburn, SK, Canada) scattered five hits over four innings, striking out three. Nick Torres (SR/Bremerton, WA) (3-1) took the loss.

Stephen Knapp kept the Jimmie hitters out of rhythm over his seven innings of work. Knapp allowed an unearned run on six hits and struck out two. Junior Ramirez (3-3), the fourth Bruin pitcher of the game, struck out the side in the 10th to earn the win.
