NEW ROCKFORD, N.D.  (NewsDakota.com) The Region III High School Baseball Tournament will commence on Monday, May 21st in New Rockford and wrap up the next day. Originally, the tournament was to be played over a three day period when there were five teams, but one team, the Thunder of Medina/Pingree/Buchanan, have opted out of the tournament. The Thunder have a low number of players and will not be able to fill all the spots. They would have more than likely been the number five seed and would have played the first game on Monday.

For the third consecutive year, the Carrington Cardinals will be the number one seed. They have won the Region 3 tournament championship five out of the last six years.  Last year the Cardinals finished in fourth place at the State B Tourney, Park River/Fordville-Lankin are the defending Class B State Champs.

All six games, seven if necessary, will be broadcast on AM 1600 KDAK the Cardinal and newsdakota.com, starting about 9:45am pregame on Monday morning. There are a total of four games on Monday, here is the first day schedule:

Game 1, 10am – No. 2 Midkota/Lakota/Dakota Prairie/Griggs County Central vs. No. 3 Kidder County

Game 2, 12:30pm – No. 1 Carrington vs. No. 4 Sheyenne/New Rockford
