The funeral service for Arthur “Art” W. Grindler, 82, Valley City, ND will be 2:00 PM, Monday, May 21, 2018 at Grace Free Lutheran Church, Valley City.  Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery, Valley City.  Art died at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City on Thursday, May 17.

Arthur William Grindler was born March 20, 1936 in Valley City, ND to Oscar and Bertha (Carl) Grindler.  He attended rural school near Valley City.  As a young man, he worked for neighboring farmers.  Art began doing some construction work and eventually became the maintenance man at the Baldhill Dam, working for the Corp of Engineers.

Art was very active at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Valley City.  He was an advocate for the Right to Life, and a longtime bell ringer for the Salvation Army.  He belonged to the Baldhill Rod and Gun Club and was a lifetime member of the NRA.  Art was a sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Twins and Vikings play.  He also loved a good fireworks show.

Art is survived by his sister, Jean Stanford of Valley City as well as two nephews, Jeff (Rona) Stanford of Mandan, ND and Scott (Kay) Stanford of Valley City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Stella; brother, Ray; and brother-in-law, Gordon Stanford.
