VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Bad weather Thursday and Friday forced The Valley City softball team to play their final 2 games of the regular season as a doubleheader Saturday. The day started with a 9-4 loss to West Fargo, The Hi-Liners bounced back with a 7-0 victory against Grand Forks Red River.

Valley City ended their EDC schedule with a 7-2 record to earn the 2 seed for the upcoming tournament. The Hi-Liners will play 7th seeded Grand Forks Central in the opening round Thursday at West Fargo Sheyenne. First pitch is set for 4, all postseason games can be heard on KOVC 1490AM- 96.3FM and NewsDakota.com

 

Game 1: West Fargo 9 vs. Valley City 4 

The Packers broke the game open with a 5 run second inning and never looked back. West Fargo collected 13 hits while Valley City was held 6.

Mackenzie Pederson was 2 for 3 with a home run, double and 2 RBI. Lexi Ondracek also had a pair of hits.  Torri Nichols-Kraft produced 3 hits and 4 RBI for West Fargo. Ashlyn Diemert also had a solo home run.

Becca Thompson took the loss pitching 3 innings. Courtney Boll struck out 7 in 3 1/3 innings for the win.

Game 2: Valley City 7 vs. Grand Forks Red River 0

Valley City had 7 runs on 7 hits to clinch 2nd place in The EDC. Pederson hit her second home run of the day and drove in 3 more runners. Ondracek had 2 doubles with Jessie Undem, Hailey Schaefer and Erin Anderson getting RBIs.

Thompson pitched all 7 innings, with 9 strike outs. She scattered 5 hits.
