BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Good things come to those who wait. After a long wait to get the track season started, good things came to the Valley City Hi-Liner track team when seven athletes qualified for the State Track and Field Championships which begin today in Bismarck.

On the boys side, Jared Eggermont qualified in the 110 Hurdles.

Head Coach Trevor Bakalar says Eggermont has what it takes to be successful now and in the future.

Eggermont finished seventh in his race, failing to qualify for state. Which came as a surprise and a disappointment to him.

But that disappointment changed quickly when the final results were posted, and he qualified.

For the girls, sophomore Allysen Mathias qualified in the javelin. Britta Roehrich, a freshman will go in the triple jump. The 4 x 100 relay team qualified with freshman Olivia Olson, seventh grader Karina Olson, freshman Jocey Kriewald and sophomore VeVe Lee.

Olivia Olson, who runs the lead leg on the relay had this reaction when they relaized they made state.

Her sister Karina, who gets the paton from Olivia, reacted the same.

Coach Bakalar says Roehrich has come on late in the season.

Bakalar says Mathais has a strong work ethic and is great at time management which has made her successful.

Bakalar says all seven athletes have what it takes to be standing on the podium at the end of the day. And with such a young team, the future looks bright for Hi-Liner track.
