WEST FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Valley City ran roughshod through The EDC softball tournament outscoring their opponents 43-1 over their 3 games to claim the tournament championship and the region’s top seed for the state tournament. The Hi-Liners’ run to the title ended with a 9-0 win over Fargo North in the championship game.
Becca Thompson had her second multi home run game of the tournament unloading a 3 run home run in the 3rd and a solo home run in the 6th. She ended the tournament with 5 homers. Lexi Ondracek had a pair of RBIs. The Hi-Liners finished with 10 hits.
Valley City played into the 7th for the first time in the tournament and Hailey Schaefer pitched every inning. She held North to just 3 hits and with 10 strikeouts.
Saturday’s win marks the first time a team not named West Fargo has won The EDC tournament championship, senior Kacee White says that makes the title win that much sweeter
After the game wrapped up The All EDC Team was announced. The Hi-Liners had 4 selections. Hailey Schaefer, Grace Scheer, Becca Thompson and Lexi Ondracek, who was also a nominee for senior athlete of the year.
Valley City, who improved to 15-2, will play The WDA’s 4th seed Minot Thursday at 4pm in the first round of the state tournament at Mickelson Field in Fargo. All Hi-Liner games can be heard on KOVC 1490 AM-96.3 FM and NewsDakota.com
