VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Valley City Post 60 played host to Kindred Thursday night and was able to come away with a sweep of the 2 games.  They won games 6-5 and 6-4 to even up their record at 2-2 on the season.

 

Game 1 : Valley City 6 vs. Kindred 5  (Region Game)

Kindred got the scoring started by putting up 2 run in the second inning.  Valley City  would be quick to respond by putting up 5 runs in their half of the 2nd.  Briar Harvey started the second with a double, followed up by a walk and a Kindred error on a bunt to load the bases.  Connor May drew a walk to score a run, that followed by a single by Matt Brandvold and a 2 run double by Avery Bennefeld.  Devin Anderson would end the scoring on a sac fly to give Post 60 their 5th run.

Kindred was able to get 2 back in the 4th and another run in the 6th tying the game at 5-5.  It would stay that way till the bottom of the 7th .

Anderson started the inning by getting hit by the pitch. A sac bunt by Riley Gerhardt moved Anderson to scoring position.  A walk to Harvey would follow with Anderson moving to 3rd on a wild pitch. John Beutler connected  for a single scoring Anderson and giving Post 60 the win.

Easton Hesch got the start on the mound.  He would go 5 and a third innings giving up 5 runs(2 earned) on 6 hits while walking 3 and striking out 3.  Reese Huschka came in in relief and got the win.  Huschka would go an inning and two thirds, giving up 0 runs on 0 hits while walking one.

On offense Post 60 would get 7 hits, with Harvey leading the way with 2, while Bennefeld lead the RBI with 2.

 

Game 2: Valley City  6 vs. Kindred 4 ( Non-Region Game)

An early run in the 1st inning by Kindred would put them out in front.  Post 60 would get on the board with 3 runs in the third and 2 runs in the fourth.  Each team would add a run in the 5th with Kindred getting 2 more in the 6th.

Avery Bennefeld got the start on the mound, going 4 innings giving up 1 run on 5 hits while walking 2 and striking out 7.  Riley Miller would come in and pitch 2 innings of relief giving up 3 runs(0 earned) while not giving up a hit, but walking 2 and striking out 2. Huschka would come in and pitch the 7th inning and pick up the save.

On offense Post 60 collected 12 hits with multiple guys picking up a pair of hits.

With the 2 wins, Post 60 record now sits at 2-2, 1-1 region record.  Next action for VC will be Monday in Wahpeton for pair games starting at 5:30.
