JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A committee working to make Jamestown a Cardiac Ready Community has achieved their goal.

The Cardiac Ready Communities project is a partnership of the North Dakota Department of Health’s Division of Emergency Medical Systems and the American Heart Association through the North Dakota Cardiac System of Care. The program is designed to promote survival from a cardiac event that occurs outside of the hospital setting.

The community-lead initiative mean’s the entire community will be ready to aid anyone in need of assistance in the event of a heart-related emergency.

“Everyone knows somebody who has suffered or died from cardiac arrest,” Committee Leader Logan Caldwell stated. “The Cardiac Ready Committee has been working hard to tie together the community’s resources to streamline a response if disaster strikes. This designation shows that the Department of Health has recognized Jamestown as having accomplished this goal.”

While the committee has achieved the status for Jamestown, Caldwell believes there is more work to be done.

“It’s a great starting place, but there is always more work to be done to give those in Jamestown their best chance if disaster strikes,” he pointed out.

Jamestown will be the fifth city in the state to achieve the Cardiac Ready Community designation. More information about the designation will be released at a later date.
