Fran (Winkler) Aune
Fran passed away on November 25, 2017 at Banner Desert Hospital after suffering a brain hemorrhage on November 22, 2017. Her loved ones were at her side as she made the journey to Heaven.
Memorial Services will be held June 30, 2018 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. in Valley City, North Dakota. Family will greet friends and family one hour before the service. Fran’s family is requesting that everyone wear purple or bling as a celebration of her life.
Frances (Fran) Friestad was born in Noltimier Township on March 6, 1932 to Gilbert and Olga (Hagen) Friestad and had one brother and four sisters.
Fran was baptized in the Lutheran faith. She attended grade and high school at Noltimier Consolidated School. While in high school she was active in women’s basketball, Fran worked at the State Highway Department and retired after 31years. She was also a volunteer for a number of years at the Nearly New.
Fran was united in marriage to William (Bill) Winkler on January 8, 1955. They had one son, William Dale Winkler . Fran and Bill moved to Valley City in 1985, after retiring from farming in the Oriska community. Fran and Bill were able to do some traveling after she retired. Bill passed away in July 2004.
Fran married Andrew Aune on Dec 21, 2007 in Valley City North Dakota. They traveled to Jamaica with family and friends. They also went to Norway where they were able to meet family members of both Fran’s and Andy’s. Fran and Andy moved to Mesa, AZ in August of 2016 after wintering in AZ for 10 years. Fran and Andy were active in the community in Mesa , AZ with volunteering, and also enjoyed the activities of music, dancing, shuffle board , playing cards and of course Bingo.
Anyone who knew Fran, knew her passion was baking and the importance of scraping all the egg whites out of the shell. You never left her home without sampling her bake goods. Her nieces shared stories of “Fran Shopping”. Fran loved the color purple, anything that had bling and bingo. Many of us have one of her quilts in our homes. Fran loved her grandchildren and especially holding the new great grandbabies, dancing, playing cards and having a good cup of black coffee.
Fran is survived by her husband Andy, son William, step daughters Teri Aune (Sharon Determan) , Deb (Al) Wacha. Grandchildren William Ross Winkler, Hayley Winkler, step grandchildren Erica (Brian)Eggers, Michelle Wacha (Monte), Joshua (JoEllen) Nathan, Kimberly Wacha (Jason), Daniel (Sara) Wacha and Amber (Carl ) Peterson. Great Grandchildren Kaydence and Emmett; step great grand children Nolan, Audrey, Micah ;William, Michaella ,Taylor ; Brynn, Harper, Rowan ; Grayson, Liam and Andrew ; Jayden, Britta, Nolan ; many nieces and nephews and their families , and Fran’s special friend Elaine Zaun and other dear friends.
Fran is proceeded in death by her first husband William, her parents, step son Michael, brother Odd; sisters Carrie, Marit, Irene and Hazel , brothers and sisters in law and other dear family members. Condolences can be sent to Andrew Aune , 2929 East Main St. #272, Mesa AZ 85213
