JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Newly elected Jamestown Mayor Dwaine Heinrich has lived in Jamestown for 40 years.

Through his business, he’s come to know many individuals and the issues facing the community. Heinrich says it’s one of the biggest reasons he felt the need to run for mayor. He says the first few days after the election, he refrained from talking with the council to let things settle.

Now, Heinrich is preparing to take the seat that has been held by Katie Andersen for the past 8 years. Henrich says there are a few things that will need to be done right away such as assigning committee responsibilities and preparing the budget. One thing he says he doesn’t want to do is “shake things up.”

As far as some of the main issue’s he sees in Jamestown that need to be addressed, Heinrich says filling open jobs will be a priority.

Heinrich says he would also like to look at street projects and if there’s a solution for waterproofing the 4th Street underpass. Heinrich encourages any city residents who may have issues or input to help guide the city to come forward to council meetings and make their voices heard.

Though Jamestown has faced adversity, Henrich commended the people of the community for making it a great place to live.

The assembly of the new council will take place Tuesday, June 26th at 4 PM at the Jamestown City Hall. Heinrich will be sworn in as mayor and David Steele will be sworn in as the newest councilman.
