VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) -The Barnes County Correctional Facility was cleared to house minimum security inmates following a state jail inspection in Valley City.

The state shut down the minimum security facility in Barnes County last December after it failed a state compliance inspection.

Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin said one stipulation by the state is for the county to have a plan in place by the end of the year to renovate or build a new jail.

He said the Barnes County Commission approved of hiring an architect (Alan Dostert of EAPC) to get an estimate on the cost of renovating the jail.
