ASHLEY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Scott Shlepp is driving a team of horses over 2000 miles this fall and winter to raise money for the American Cancer Society and Tri-County Tourism Alliance.

With his covered wagon and team comprised of horses, Duke and Duchess, Shlepp got the idea for the trip from a movie.

Shlepp started in Rolla, ND and will finish up in Brownsville, TX. The journey will take him and his team nearly 2,000 miles from border to boarder. He says 10% of donations will go to the American Cancer Society and 5% of what’s raised will go to the Germans from Russia Tri-County Tourism Alliance.

“[The] remainder [will be] going to the funding of the project for transportation, feed, meals, and other things,” Shlepp says on his GoFundMe page.

He says it’ll take him around 20 miles a day to reach his destination.

Schlepp says his biggest concern is the shoeing on the horses. He says typically, they need to be replaced after around 100 miles. He was seen in the Medina area on Saturday and Sunday and near Streeter Monday.
