JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A man severed his hand while cutting meat at his home Friday afternoon in Jamestown.

According to police reports, a call came in after 12 PM after 69 year-old Myron Schlafman severed his hand while using a meat grinder in his garage. Two officers arrived on scene and applied a tourniquet to his arm to stop blood loss.

The Jamestown Area Ambulance arrived and transported him to the JRMC within 9 minutes of the call. Schlafman’s hand was placed in a severed limb package to keep it free of contamination and was kept cool by officers.

Police Lt. Robert Opp told the Associated Press that authorities don’t have details on Schlafman’s condition, including whether the hand can be reattached.
