JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Fire Department was dispatched to Jonny B’s Brickhouse after reports of a carbon dioxide leak coming from the basement.

The call came in just before 11 AM. Firefighters set up their command post in the alley behind the building, blocking off traffic while others entered the basement to monitor carbon dioxide levels.

“One of our staff came up from downstairs and was lightheaded, had trouble breathing and was ready to faint,” Owner Jon Beyer stated at the scene. “I went downstairs and didn’t see anything, but became lightheaded myself.”

Officials say a canister in the basement began leaking CO2 which then filled the business. Adjacent businesses were evacuated as a precaution while the building was vented.

Nine firefighters responded to the scene for roughly 2 hours. All businesses resumed normal operations following the incident.
