VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Architects will give a presentation to the Barnes County Jail Committee on Wednesday, September 26th in the county commission chambers.

The special meeting will start at 6pm with a presentation from BWBR Architects based in St. Paul followed by one at 7:00pm by Klein McCarthy Architects based in St. Louis Park, MN and at 8:00pm by Enterprise Sales of Valley City.

The cost estimate to renovate a portion of the Barnes County Correctional Facility was estimated at $3.5 million. The cost to build a new jail is estimated at about $8 million.

Members of the committee approved of a motion to pursue every available grant or resource to build a new jail on September 11th. A majority of the members believe renovating the jail at a cost of $3.5 million would be a waste of money being it doesn’t include new cell blocks or jail doors.
