JAMESTOWN, N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – Mayville State (N.D.) University scored three times in the top of the first and took a 6-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth before holding on for a 9-6 win over the University of Jamestown baseball team Monday night at Jack Brown Stadium.

Brady Nygaard, Adrian Zubia, and Kyle Maunahan all had run-scoring singles off of Jimmie starter Cole Torgerson (JR/Billings, MT) (0-1).  Adam Senden drove in a pair of runs in a three-run fourth as the Comets pushed their lead to 6-1.

A bases-loaded walk to Kaleb Binstock (SR/Grand Forks, ND) in the bottom of the fifth got the Jimmies on the scoreboard. Trailing 7-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Jamestown got two runs back on Zach Zurbrugg (SR/Bremerton, WA)’s second home run of the season.

The Comets added a single run in the seventh to make it 8-4, but UJ pushed home two runs in the bottom of the inning on a single by Binstock and a bases-loaded walk to Zurbrugg.

Mayville State added another run in the eighth to increase their lead to three.

Maunahan and Andrew Hill each had two hits for Mayville State (4-2). Julian Ortiz, who pitched two innings in relief of starter Austin Herrington, got the win, despite allowing four runs on four hits. Zach Giesbrecht worked the final 2 1/3 innings for the save.

Torgerson gave up five runs (three earned) on five hits in 3 2/3 innings. Zurbrugg led the offense with a 3-for-4 night at the plate, including three RBI. Drake Pilat (SR/Winnipeg, MB, Canada) doubled twice and Binstock and Tanner Roundy (SR/Henderson, NV) both had a pair of hits.

Jamestown (1-2) concludes the fall portion of its schedule with a doubleheader against Viterbo (Wis.) Sunday at St. John’s (Minnesota). First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
