JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Regional Medical Center has dreamed of the day cancer treatment would become available in Jamestown.

To make this dream a reality, the JRMC Foundation will be hosting two cancer center events this week. The first will be a private debut for 200 individuals during a gala on September 27th.

JRMC Interim President and CEO Trisha Jungels states that the Journey to Oncology has been a long process, but believes this will be the final step towards the finish line.

JRMC Foundation Director Lisa Jackson says the project has been one of the biggest she has seen in her time at the JRMC.

Marketing Manager Katie Ryan-Anderson says cancer remains the number one cause of death in the state and eliminating the travel for many of those in the region will help immensely.

While the Journey to Mile 256 gala is by ticket only, there will be another moment for the public to visit on Sunday, September 30th from 10:30 AM to 1 PM. The event is free and will include a light brunch and small tours of the shell space where the Oncology Center will be.

The hospital is asking the community’s support as they continue to recruit an oncologist and raise money. The JRMC Foundation currently sits at $1.2 million of their $1.5 million goal for capital expense.
