BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- This Monday, October 8th the Valley City High School Student Congress team traveled to the West Student Congress Invitational with 22 students.

There were about 285 students from across the state at the tournament. The Hi-Liners saw a lot of success throughout the competition. Three students had their resolutions/bills chosen to be debated at the state tournament: Lillian Kiefert in House II with her resolution about pushing the UN to require all member nations to require a sex offender registry, Luke Plagens in House IV with his bill about making the Supreme Court Justices elected positions, and Alexis Wobbema’s resolution about unisex bathrooms being more accessible in public schools. Alexis Wobbema ran for presiding officer in House VI and Lily Douglass ran for presiding officer in House V. While neither were elected they gained some valuable experience.

Placing for the Hi-Liners were:

Senate: Maggie Oberlander (8th)

House II: Lillian KIefert (Champion- 1st)

House IV: Luke Plagens (Champion- 1st)

Next up is the State Congress Tournament which will be held November 1st and 2nd at the State Capital Building in Bismarck, ND.
