VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUVikings.com) – Logan Nelson poured in a game-high 30 points Sunday afternoon and the VCSU men’s basketball team erupted for 122 points in a victory over Providence College (Manitoba).

The Vikings led 62-28 at halftime en route to a 122-49 victory.

Valley City State improves to 1-1 overall. Providence College drops to 3-5.

Five Vikings scored in double figures Sunday, led by Nelson’s 30 points on 12-for-15 shooting. Chris Morgan posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Christian Kvilvang and Connor Entzi both had 19 points and five rebounds, and Michael Cornelious finished with 16 points, five rebounds and two blocks.

Valley City State racked up 24 assists in the game, including a team-high eight assists by Hunter McCalla off the bench. Starting point guard Jake Skelly filled up the stat sheet with six assists, six points, seven rebounds and three steals.

The Vikings shot 57 percent overall (47-82), 26 percent on 3’s (7-27) and 88 percent at the free throw line (21-24).

VCSU committed only five turnovers and forced Providence into 21 turnovers. The Vikings held a 51-24 advantage on the glass, including a 14-6 edge in offensive rebounds.

Providence College was led by 17 points from Cash Blanca and 16 by Chris Dick. The Pilots shot 29 percent from the field (20-68), 19 percent on 3’s (5-26) and 57 percent at the line (4-7).
