ELLENDALE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Region 3, District 5 volleyball tournament began on Thursday in Ellendale and all three first round matches ended in sweeps.

Midkota def, Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier 25-19, 25-20, 25-16

Hunter Peterson led the Mustangs offense in the first match of the day. The freshman had eleven kills. Mackenzie Gleason added eight and Brenna Anderson had 25 set assists.

The Rebels were led by Jamey Ellingson and Maren Berntson with five kills each. Avarie Carlson added 14 assists.

Oakes def., Ellendale 25-11, 25-10, 25-14

The Tornadoes cruised to a straight set win over the Cardinals. Nicole Schmitz had a game high 17 kills. Marisa Garza added six and Sadie Hansen had 24 set assists.

The Cardinals were lead by Katelyn Dathe and Abby Peterson with two kills each. Taylor Krege had five set assists.

LaMoure-Litchville/Marion def, Barnes County North 25-19, 26-24, 25-14

The three time defending state champ advance with a straight set win over the Bison. Ellie Holen led a balanced attack with eleven kills. Alyssa Ragan and Ryleigh Podoll had seven kills each and Ashlyn Rode added six. Allie Hebl had 30 set assists.

Clara Wieland had nine kills and 10 set assists. Ashley McFadgen had five along with four service aces. Alexis Greshik chipped in seven assists.
