JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Considered an “unofficial holiday”, the North Dakota deer gun season kicks off today and runs through November 25th.

North Dakota Game & Fish Wildlife Biologist Doug Leier says the season opens at Noon Central time. While there’s a lot of excitement behind the start of the season, Leier says they’re stressing safety.

Leier says don’t bring a loaded firearm into your vehicle and before pulling the trigger on a target, check the surroundings.

Leier says the deer numbers are expected to be good this year. Those who have drawn a tag should have ample opportunity to find their buck this year. Leier encourages hunters to do some scouting beforehand and be sure to ask landowners before doing so.
