WILLISTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown punched their third straight ticket to the Class A volleyball tournament the hard way. After losing to Bismarck High in the quarterfinals, they needed to win their final two matches to get to state. They did just that.

After defeating Williston on Friday and advancing to the state qualifier, the Jays stunned second-seeded Legacy 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-23) on Saturday afternoon. The Sabers were swept by Mandan in the semifinals.

Jamestown stormed out the gates to take the opening set in dominating fashion and had Legacy on their heals the rest of the match.

All-stater Courtney Peterson lead the way with 18 kills, but the supporting cast played their best game of the season. “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that look Courtney had in her eye today,” said coach Sara Hegerle.

Jamestown will advance to Minot for the state tournament. The Jays will play the EDC Champion West Fargo Packers at 5pm on Thursday in the state quarterfinals.
